Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are incredibly thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your natural teeth. They’re used to reduce the appearance of minor imperfections and often last 12* years or longer with optimal care.

The number of veneers you need depends on the issues addressed and your goals. Normally, VaraniSmile typically recommends 6-8 to ensure your smile looks symmetrical.

What issues can veneers help cover?

VaraniSmile uses veneers to cover up a variety of minor cosmetic issues, including:

  • Chips, cracks, and pitting
  • Stains and discoloration
  • Pointy teeth
  • Smaller-than-average teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth

Your provider might also recommend veneers if you have a visible space between two or more teeth.

What does getting veneers involve?

At VaraniSmile, getting veneers takes two visits.

First veneers visit

During your first visit, your provider performs an oral exam and takes X-rays to assess the position and condition of your teeth. If you don’t have cavities or gum disease, you qualify for treatment, and your provider administers a local anesthetic.

When you’re comfortable, your provider removes a thin layer of enamel from each tooth. Then, they use an intraoral scanner to take a series of digital impressions. Your provider sends your impressions to a dental facility that specializes in designing and manufacturing porcelain veneers.

When the facility finishes your veneers, you return to VaraniSmile.

Second veneers visit

Your provider administers an anesthetic to numb your mouth and bonds the veneers to your natural teeth with dental cement. Then, they polish your veneers and explain how to care for them.

How do I extend the lifespan of my veneers?

The easiest way to extend the lifespan of your veneers is to practice good oral hygiene. VaraniSmile recommends:

  • Visiting your dentist every six months for teeth cleaning and an oral exam
  • Not biting down on hard objects like pen caps, ice cubes, or popcorn kernels
  • Protecting your veneers with a mouthguard when playing sports
  • Brushing your teeth twice daily

If you grind your teeth, you might also want to wear a night guard when you’re sleeping.
